REAding Rodeo

…     A Sizzlin’ Night of Reading

Eastern Elementary/Middle School held its second annual Family Reading Night on Friday,
February 29, 2008.
Over 100 children, accompanied by adult family members, attended the

Reading RodeoA Sizzlin’ Night of Reading.  During the evening families had the opportunity
to navigate a western-themed obstacle course, construct crafts including bookmarks, hear a
storyteller and read books together.
“Morgan and the Pot of Brains”, a story told by EEMS fifth
grade students, was enjoyed by all as was the presentation of fables by GHS students.

Children had the opportunity to choose “gently used” books to take home from the book swap,
and parents learned of reading resources and tips for encouraging reading at home.

Family photos were taken amongst a western-themed background, and representatives from
Pearisburg Public Library were on hand to share information with families. Close to fifty
dedicated volunteers joined us in making this reading event a huge success.
  The evening
ended with refreshments served by the EEMS PTA and several door prizes were given away.

We appreciate all of the hard work and dedication that went into making this a fun-filled and
enjoyable evening for everyone.
Young and old alike are looking forward to next year’s event.
